DOUG CHEESEMAN APPRECIATION SOCIETY
Welcome to the Doug Cheeseman Appreciation Society (DCAS)
Comprised solely of Doug Cheesemans our sociey is, it’s fair to say, a select one. What we lack in quantity, of course, we make up for in quality. Currently we boast two members with one pending and are always open to new ones. We’re easy going folk here at DCAS, so if your full name is “Douglas” or “Dougall”, you’re welcome to apply to join - just so long as you are generally known as “Doug Cheeseman”. Otherwise it could get out of hand…
Drop me, Doug Cheeseman (DCAS CEO), a line via LinkedIn and you could be on this page…

Doug Cheeseman 1937-2022
Co-founder & Honorary Life President in Memorial
From: San José, California USA
Doug was a pioneering eco-travel expert, and ran Cheesemans’ Safaris with his wife Gail from 1980. Their work was truly incredible and the list of places they visited is jaw-dropping. Check out their website for more. Doug and DCAS CEO Doug (below) enjoyed a friendly rivalry as they vied for number one spot on a “Doug Cheeseman” Google search for much of the 2000s. Although the two Dougs never met they exchanged emails and enjoyed the shared kinship of their unusual nomenclature.
Both Doug and Gail sadly died, a few months apart in 2021 and 2022 respectively. They are much missed, but their children Ted and Tara continue their legacy. Tara has recently been in touch with DCAS CEO Doug to say: "My dad was a one of a kind character with a loud booming voice and unique way about him. It makes me smile that you both connected and I am so glad you reached out across the miles to say hello!" Read her wonderful tribute to her father here.
RIP Doug. Happy travels.

Doug Cheeseman 1966-
Co-founder and CEO
From: Essex, UK
Doug is a freelance graphic designer working primarily in print, he’s bit old fashioned like that… in case you haven’t noticed, this is the Doug Cheeseman Design website.
He has lived in London since 1987 but hails from Essex - South Benfleet, on the Thames Estuary to be exact. You can just about see Southend Pier, the area’s primary landmark in the picture above. He’s married to Sarah and has three relatively grown-up kids.
When not monitoring the DCAS inbox (practically a full-time job in itself) Doug enjoys cricket (top score 52), snooker (best break 24) and is an occasional DJ – under the monicker SIR DOUGLAS SOUND – a rare outing for his full christian name.
He likes to think he’s an expert on pretty much everything, but demonstrably isn’t.

Doug Cheeseman Facts!
Doug is usually derived from Douglas, which is a Scottish name meaning “dark stream”. The derivation from Gaelic being: “dubh” = dark black, and “glas” = stream. Scottish people may well also call you “Doogie”, which is nice.
Cheeseman is an English name given, to, er, Cheesemakers.
The combination, being an Anglo-Scottish hybrid makes it quite uncommon.
